Mama always comes back.
Posted on February 8, 2007
I just returned from my first business trip ever. It was more than a week and took me to Miami, away from my son, my husband, my dogs . . . And I missed them all like crazy. When Will was a newborn, my husband was travelling all the time for long periods. It was hard being the only parent home with a weeks-old and later months-old baby. But we made it through that time. And now we’ve made it through this longer period of me being gone.
Of course, Will is older now but not so old that he understands the concept of a business trip. He asked for me throughout the week and listened intently to my voice on the phone before trying to locate me. And as much as I tell him, “Mommy always comes back,” I know it’s an unfamiliar concept for him that he doesn’t yet grasp. How do you prepare kids for your absense?
Fortunately, I don’t travel frequently (though I have another trip in June). In the future, I would love to take Will with me, but that’s not exactly an easy thing. You need someone to watch him, somewhere for him to sleep (he prefers to sleep alone), etc.
Anyway, this post isn’t food related, obviously, though a food related one is on the way. I just wanted you to know that I am back and La Cucina Bella will get rolling with more food, more fun and more excitement. I did try to post while I was on location in Miami, but had some Blogger problems that prevented it from happening. C’est la view, right?

Will, the husband and the doggies must have missed you like crazy. At least I hope they did.
