Dawn, thanks! I am going to check that out. The reason for limiting spending to the weekends is that I work during the week and it gets way too hectic to try to fit shopping into that schedule. So for sanity, I shop for the week on my days off -- Also, interesting about the savings idea.

Cate, thanks for the encouragement and for resending the link. The ebbs and flows are hard, but I am still going.

Doreen, I love the idea of filling water bottles to save for vacation!

Donna, I can't wait to hear about your adventures this summer!

I have to admit, I don't understand the idea of just spending on the weekends. I try to do all my grocery shopping once a week (often on a Tuesday), and planning meals ahead for the week can definitely save money, but I'm as capable of spending $200 at Target on a Saturday as a Tuesday or Thursday. (OOH! Isn't that CUTE!)

What helped me the most was Budget Map! I included the link as "my website", because you ought to go and take a look. I have no affiliation with the company.

Budget Map is a paper checkbook that has space for your budget for each category. As you're shopping, deduct the amount you spend from each category. (Be sure to include "Miscellaneous" and "Savings" categories too!)

When you get a paycheck, put the money into categories as your budget. I was able to save a lot of money by doing it this way, but you may need a separate bank account for your husband if he spends money without accounting for it like mine does!

(Another thing many experts suggest is putting money into savings automatically. If it's deducted from your husband's check before it hits your bank, you may never miss it.)

It was a blog - will dig it out tomorrow and send it to you. You've been doing great so far, but it's all about ebbs and flows, and you can't knock yourself when you get off track a bit. Just get back on track and remember each day is a new slate. You can do it!

I have been on a spending diet for 6 months now..it does get depressing sometimes but I am faithfully filling my big water bottles with change and it is inspiring to see them fill up..We decided if they are full we will spend a week at the beach with our kids and grand kids..pretty bad when I scope the ground for change!
