Eat. Live. Be. For a Better 2011: Breaking a Habit

Life is filled with habits — good ones like brushing your teeth, being spontaneous and starting the day with coffee, and also bad ones too. Like everyone, I have a few bad habits that I could stand to break.

This week’s Eat. Live. Be. For a Better 2011 topic is breaking a habit. More specifically, we’re supposed to choose a habit to work on breaking over the next two weeks.

My Bad Habit: Eating at night

Why I Want to Break It: Let me back up for a second, the reason for my late night snacking is largely that I work late. Working late is a habit I broke a long time ago … except over the past few months, I have started doing it again. And it’s not good for me.  When I stay up late, I end up snacking (ahem, keeping the energy up) and also don’t get enough sleep. Vicious cycle.

So it’s really two-fold — I need to stop working at night and also stop eating at night. By doing these two things, I suspect I will see the scale start descending again … and I will be more alert without copious amounts of coffee.

    There are so many health issues with working late. I need to cut it out too.

    That’s a good one to break. I don’t tend to eat a lot at night, but always need an afternoon sweet snack. If I would prep ahead of time and bring something to work with me, I’d at least have a more healthful choice than what is in the office.
