I was raised the same as you (and my kids are being raised that way too) — to wait until everyone is seated together to start eating. My husband wasn’t but has embraced it. I’m not sure it could be considered “eating together” if you aren’t really eating at the same time … but maybe that’s just me?

For instance, in my house, we always wait until everyone has their food and then we “eat together.” For my husband, his dad always serves one person at a time and they start eating immediately. By the time the last person is served, the first person is usually done with their meal.
