A Taste of Gallo Family Vineyards Moscato Wine

A glass of chilled, crisp white wine is always perfect at the end of a summer day. While winter is all about the warm, enveloping reds, summertime demands something lighter and easier going.

Two summers ago, I was all about the vinho verde. Last summer, I went for pinot grigio. This summer’s favorite variety hasn’t yet been determined so when MomItForward asked if I was interested in reviewing Gallo Family Vineyard’s Moscato wine, I said yes. Quickly.

I had no idea what to expect from this wine when a box with two bottles arrived last week. It’s a variety I’d never heard of before, so the whole thing was a great big adventure. I have however heard of Gallo Family Vineyards, which has been producing wines since 1933.

Before trying the Gallo Family Vineyards Moscato, I chilled it. White wines are so refreshing when chilled. Then I uncorked it with dinner over the weekend, having a glass with a pasta I’d made.

To be perfectly honest, the sweet Moscata didn’t work well with that meal, which seemed to emphasize the sweet too much. For me, this isn’t a wine to have with dinner. However, according to the information I was given, Gallo says that this can work with spicy meals.

All of this is not to say I didn’t enjoy it. I did. Gallo Family Vineyards Moscato is a nice wine. I’ve since had it a few more times, and really appreciate the soft crispness and sweet undertones. This will be a great wine for this summer to have after dinner or with small plates before dinner. It’s particularly good served with cheese and crackers and the like.

Want to know more about what I thought? I made a video! I’m kind of into the video thing, so you might just see a few more videos coming your way soon too. Enjoy!

One more thing. Today is National Moscato Day, and Gallo Family Vineyards is having a Twitter party tonight to celebrate. Pour yourself a glass and join other blogs and myself for the Gallo Family Vineyards National Moscato Day #gno Twitter Party from 9-10 pm EST. I’ll be one of the community panelists. Hope to tweet you there!

Disclaimer: Gallo Family Vineyards provided the wine for this post and compensated me for my time. However, all opinions are my own.

I usually enjoy Mosca to but yesterday my bottle was very bitter. Couldn't even drink it. Bad batch ?

Sorry to hear that, Nancy ... I haven't experienced that. If you haven't already, perhaps reach out to the company and let them know?

I love moscato....! Although it is a 'dessert' wine, those of us who love sweets drink it all the time :)

Moscato is usually a dessert wine round these parts.

I love that you said "round these parts!" Also, thanks for letting me know -- the lit that came with it didn't say that (they call it a table wine) but it seemed like a dessert wine to me.

You have such a great time there. With a bottle of white wine that is a perfect choice to serve with white meat, such as fish, calamari and chicken. Forgive if I'm wrong but I heard that white wine paired well with white meat and red wine paired well with red meat.

Yui, that's true of dry white wines but not of sweet ones like this. Sweet wines are usually reserves for dessert and such.
