Holiday Traditions (and a Delicious Giveaway!)
When I was talking to my cousin on the phone last night, a wistful wave rose up inside me. Would our family see each other all at once this holiday season? It’s been two years since our last family holiday party. Last year’s was cancelled due to an illness in the family (fortunately, that family member is doing fine now). It’s been an annual tradition for years, and one we love.
I’d happily host the party myself, but my small house couldn’t hold my big, close knit family. At least not comfortably.
“So. Is anyone having a holiday party?”
I asked, knowing that I don’t have a solution for where to have it. I asked, knowing that it’s been a tough year all around.
“I don’t know. But that’s an idea we should think about,” she replied … or something like that. And hopefully we will.
This is a holiday tradition that I really cherish. Our big, crazy family includes many kids all within a few years of each other who adore each other’s company. We don’t always all agree (including, ahem, about the election …), but we love each other and coming together is something worth continuing. I’m afraid that if we don’t find a way to make it work this year, the tradition might be lost.
So, keep your fingers crossed for us that we can find a way to make the annual family holiday party happen this year.
What are your family’s holiday traditions?
My husband’s traditions include Hickory Farms. His grandfather used to always bring a Hickory Farms gift to holiday gatherings, which they would break open and share. As Shawn remembers it, his grandfather would head to a Hickory Farms kiosk in a nearby mall to buy it each year. It was such a simple thing, but it was tradition — and one that is recalled so fondly.

All Day Celebration sounds nice to me!
I love Hickory Farms Summer Sausage and Cheese Gift Box! – I ordered one when I was stationed in Afghanistan and wanted to share a taste of home with my fellow soldiers. We had a cheese, sausage, and cracker party when the package arrived and it cheered everyone up! And I was really happy that Hickory Farms was willing to ship my package to such a remote place – not all companies did.

I remember every December Hickory Farms would suddenly appear in my local mall… and someone would end up giving us a gift box from them! My boys would go crazy over it!
