Can I Read 52 Books in 2013?

Are you a big reader? I am. Given the time and the books, I could read many a week. Though as a busy mom and freelance writer, I don’t really have time for that. Still, I think reading is important to our minds and — specific to my career — our creativity. So I read as much as I can.

In 2012, I decided to try to read 52 books. I came really close (and I’ve heard that I should count it as a win since technically I did read more than 52 books). This year? I am at it again, and keeping track to see just how much I can read in a year. Will I make it to 52 this time? We’ll see!

  1. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery — This is a childhood favorite that is as good for adults as it is for kids.
  2. Anne of Avonlea by Lucy Maud Montgomery – Another childhood favorite that is good for adults too.
  3. Heaven is for Real By Todd Burpo, Sonja Burpo, Colton Burpo – I never thought I would read this, but in the wake of what happened at my kids’ school, I felt drawn to it. And I am so glad I did. (Note: I received a free copy of this from a charitable organization that provides books to traumatized areas. All opinions are my own.)
  4. Touch & Go by Lisa Gardner – This is a thrilling crime novel set in New England. Good stuff. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  5. Summerset Abbey by T.J. Brown – A Historical fiction novel set in Edwardian England. It appealed to my Downton Abbey-loving self. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  6. The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen – College friends head off to paradise to celebrate a big birthday … and their secrets go with them. Loved this book — Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  7. The Paradise Guest House by Ellen Sussman – A woman injured in a terrorist attack returns to Bali on the one year anniversary. This is a tale of loss, love and forgiveness. Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  8. A Good American by Alex George – This book follows several generations of a family from the time they arrive in America to generations later. It’s a novel about family, love, talents, grief and a family finding its way in a new country.
  9. Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson – An off-the-wall memoir by the hilarious blogger behind The Bloggess. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  10. Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham – A novel about chasing those big dreams. A young woman who wants to be an actress goes for it with some flubs along the way. Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  11. Starting Now by Debbie Macomber – Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  12. The Good Life by Susan Kietzman – Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  13. Table for Seven by Whitney Gaskell – Review coming soon. (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  14. What She Left Us by Stephanie Elliot
  15. The Good Life by Susan Kietzman (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  16. The Longings of Wayward Girls by Karen Brown (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  17. The Last Camellia by Sarah Jio
  18. Summer Island by Kristin Hannah
  19. All the Summer Girls by Meg Donohue (Note: I received a digital advance copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own always.)
  20. The Beach House by Jane Green
  21. Promises to Keep by Jane Green

I love this idea! I want to join in (even though you didn't issue this challenge to anyone, haha!) I think I'll keep track on my blog of how many books I read this year. It will make me feel good to look back and respect my progress because sometimes I get bummed out thinking about how much reading I was able to do before I had kids!
