Heirloom Tomato Salad with Blue Cheese Vinaigrette

Heirloom Tomato Salad with Blue Cheese Vinaigrette

Nearly every weekend this summer has included a trip to my cousin’s farm. Will and I have carefully selected the farm-fresh and mostly organic produce and coveted it all week long. There were overflowing pints of blueberries that Will would finish before the day was out and tiny, sweet orange cherry tomatoes that would burst […]

Broccoli Slaw

When I was pregnant with Will, I ate everything in sight – except lobster (one of my favorite foods). The favorites during that time were sausage and pepper grinders, nachos and anything from McDonald’s. I couldn’t have chosen a worse diet really. This pregnancy is the polar opposite. I still like lobster, for one thing. […]

Zesty Black Bean, Corn and Cucumber Salad

Zesty Black Bean, Corn and Cucumber Salad

The good news is that I had tremendous success grilling clams in beer on my parents’ gas grill this weekend. The bad news is I forgot my camera and have zero photo evidence to show for it. So how to grill clams on a gas grill will be a story for another day, I guess. […]

Memorial Day Salads

I can’t believe it’s Memorial Day already. Yea for warm weather, swimming and lots of beach time! Boo for overpriced gas and higher electric bills. Can’t have it all, can we? Tomorrow, we are heading to the beach for a family day and probably a barbecue. Nothing quite compares with sand, surf and family on […]

French Dip Panini and Caprese Salad

French Dip Panini and Caprese Salad

Dinner tonight was a pretty quick combination of recipes. First, I threw together Rachael Ray’s French Dip Panini (with a few minor modifications). Then I whipped up a two-minute caprese salad (which coincidentally is a perfect inclusion for Sweetnicks’ ARF/5-A-Day Tuesday). Honestly, I dare say this is the first Rachael Ray recipe I have ever […]

I am in the throws of finishing the first draft of my manuscript for Families Eat Together. My publisher was generous enough to give me a one week extension and the draft is now due tomorrow, instead of May 1. But I wanted to take a few minutes from my frantic writing and editing to […]

Joys of Spring: a simple fruit salad

Joys of Spring: a simple fruit salad

| April 28, 2007 | 3 Comments

It’s warm out now, with May quickly approaching. There are signs of spring all around – the blooming forsythia, flowering daffodils, blossoming tulips. Everywhere you look, at least here in Connecticut, trees are coming alive again and animals are emerging from long winter rests. Just this morning, we spied a skunk (beautiful, however smelly) across […]

Seared Tuna with Sesame Soy Drizzle

Seared Tuna with Sesame Soy Drizzle

After discovering a few recipes for seared tuna recently, which are strikingly similar in cooking method but different in serving, I decided to try my hand at my own variation. There is nothing like a good slab of ahi tuna, seared just right – as in rare. It’s a delicious and firm fish.I used some […]

ARF: Blue Tomato Salad with Basil Vinaigrette

So, I’ve been failing to post for the weekly blogging events for sometime even though I intended to. I really like joining in on the fun for events like ARF/5-A-Day hosted weekly by Sweetnicks, since it challenges me to make something new and different that brings more antioxidants and/or vegetables into our home. Check Sweetnicks […]
