Review: Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Grocery Toasted Almond and Strawberry Shortcake Coffees

| June 29, 2012 | 7 Comments

It’s been a long time since I last had flavored coffees at home — or at all. Typically, I stick to a nice dark French Roast, while my husband prefers an Italian Roast or even something in the medium roast category. But once upon a time, not that long ago, I was all about the flavors. What changed? Nothing really — I just fell into a morning coffee habit, I suppose.

So when Mom It Forward asked if I would like to do another review for Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Grocery, this time for their seasonal flavors, I figured why not? That was weeks and weeks ago. Then, when I finally learned the flavors recently, I found myself with a healthy dose of skepticism. The flavors? Toasted Almond and Strawberry Shortcake.

As I said, I was skeptical. Dessert flavors in coffee? Really?

The Toasted Almond flavor was smooth and, well, almond-y — but in that toasted almond ice cream bars that you’d get from the Good Humor dude way. But without the sweetness … unless of course you sweeten it yourself. For that flavor, it’s definitely key that you like that toasted almond richness to enjoy it.

As for the Strawberry Shortcake, that one tripped me up a lot. I just couldn’t imagine the flavor — and wasn’t sure I wanted to. Well, let me tell you, this skeptic was really pleasantly surprised. It definitely smells and tastes of its namesake dessert, and that enhances the coffee. After a few sips, I realized that this coffee would be fabulous on ice. It’s definitely going to be making repeat appearances in my house this summer (chilled, of course).

In the end, I remembered how flavored coffees can offer a nice change up to the daily coffee routine. That’s a good thing.

Both coffees are available nationwide in groceries, drug stores and club stores and retails for about $8.79 per 11 oz package.

I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I sure enjoyed an iced latte yesterday. I miss Dunkin Doughnuts since they don’t have them out here.
