Do you use natural cleaners? After having Will, I became somewhat obsessed with using natural products because I developed some intense allergies — and I worried what those same things might be doing to his little body. Over the years, I have found some that work really well. Others? Not so much. And some tasks really do require heavy duty cleaners.
A few months back, I received an email asking if I would try a new line of products available at Walgreens (and Duane Reade) and maybe write a blog post about them. I agreed, because the products sounded interesting. Ology products are a new line of health-conscious household and lifestyle products. They are aimed to be safe for kids without harmful chemicals — and available at a wallet-friendly price.
As a mother, I appreciate the mission. I aim to use mostly natural cleaners, especially in our kitchen. I hate the idea of having harsh cleaners near where we eat. But natural cleaners don’t always work that well, so it’s important to find ones that do. Yes, I entered this more than a little skeptical.
The Ology line includes laundry detergent, fabric softener, glass cleaner, shampoo and more. I decided to give Ology All Purpose Cleaner Lemon & Lavender a try. I was out of my usual cleaner (a natural one that works pretty well) and figured it was good timing.
The Ology All Purpose Cleaner Lemon & Lavender has a clean, fresh, natural scent that I really liked. Seriously, I smile every time I spray it. While scent isn’t that important to a cleaner, when something smells good it can be a huge perk.
But what you really want to know is how it works, right? Yea, I don’t blame you. So despite my skepticism, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ology worked on most messes (the really hard, stuck on ones were no match). As an every day cleaner for everyday messes, it worked really well to clean up spills — including the sticky ones. For most use, it was really great.
In fact, I may never go back to my old cleaner which did an okay job because this Ology cleaner is just so much better. That’s saying a lot. Right?
But I should be clear — the Ology cleaner wasn’t that great for my glass top stove. It left streaks and just couldn’t handle the harder messes there. But I think that’s true of many cleaners. For that, I’ve found that special cleaner, a razor for scraping and some glass cleaner (used in a 1-2-3 succession) works best.
Hey, can’t win ’em all, right?

I'm testing these too. I liked the glass cleaner. And the fragrance-free detergent is testing well.
