A glass of rich red wine is such a treat at the end of the day, and Gallo Family’s Hearty Burgundy is a perfect option. This post is sponsored by Gallo Family Vineyards, and I am compensated as part of the Mom It Forward blogger network. All photos and opinions are my own.
My grandmother was serious about wine. As a child, I accompanied her to the wine store where I watched as she examined labels and chose carefully — occasionally asking for a recommendation from the shop owners. It was by watching that I learned to read fact cards about wines. She liked her red wines dry, with an alcohol content above 10% (preferably closer to 11% or 12%). Anything lower than that wasn’t worth tasting, in her opinion.
Still, it was years before I developed an appreciation for wines. Of course, my tastes are a little different. I like medium-bodied wines that are dry — but not quite as dry as my grandmother favored. And honestly, I haven’t checked the alcohol content of a wine in years.
All that said, I am reasonably confident that both my grandmother and I would enjoy Gallo Family Vineyard’s Hearty Burgundy wine. This rich, dark red wine is perfect for sipping over a hearty dinner.
Gallo Family Vineyards is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of their iconic Hearty Burgundy wine — a variety that is equally well-suited for sipping and it is for flavoring rich dishes. Introduced in 1964, winemakers Ernest and Julio Gallo crafted this wine in homage to ones they’d had in Italy while sharing good food and conversations with family. It was their favorite.
The 50th Anniversary Hearty Burgundy isn’t only being sold in a special limited edition bottle with a gold label (it is the golden anniversary, after all!), but the rich flavor — a blend of dark berries and red plums with a hint of oak — was created to honor the original flavor profile of the wine from the 60s.

I would love to pair this with manicotti! That was my favorite meal growing up (and I certainly wasn't pairing it with Burgundy back then) :-)
