Three ingredients. Less than an hour. This is seriously the easiest homemade bread recipe you can make.

And for some of us (me!) that’s perfect.

Remember last March and April when everyone was baking up a storm, learning to make bread and dealing with shortages of flour, yeast and so many other things? That was tough.

Although I was tempted to get in on the sourdough craze, the responsibility of starting and maintaining a starter was too much for me. So I stuck with less intense bread recipes.

I taught my kids to make focaccia bread. I made quick bread. I whipped up biscuits too and scones. And I pulled out three ingredients to make the simplest, no-fuss bread: this Easy Beer Bread.

Easy Beer Bread is made with three ingredients pictured here: self-rising flour, beer and salt. These are shown on a granite countertop with a tray of fruit in the background.

This recipe calls for just three ingredients — Self-rising flour, beer and salt. The flavor for the bread all comes from the beer, so the trick is to choose one you love to drink.

In other words, if you hate hoppy beer, you aren’t going to love hoppy bread. You’ve been warned.

Making the dough is simple: add all the ingredients to a bowl. It will bubble up really satifyingly. Stir them together until a dough forms. And then transfer it to a greased loaf pan.

Then bake to golden.

What’s especially great about this Easy Beer Bread recipe is that the loaf can be used for anything — sandwiches, French toast, croutons, whatever. I love it sliced with a smear of butter best, but try it in different ways and discover your favorite way to enjoy it.
