What’s Goodies Connecticut Lobster Roll Like?

Connecticut lobster rolls are warm, buttery sandwiches usually served on New England-style hot dog buns. Where can you find the best lobster roll in Connecticut? Follow along as I head around the state to find the most drool-worthy Connecticut lobster roll. New England travel isn’t complete without trying one of these delicious sandwiches.

Have you heard of Goodies? It’s a classic New England drive-in with two locations in Milford, Connecticut, that hosts cruise nights and dishes up platters of fried seafood, big burgers and hot dogs and much more at their main location on Cherry Street. They also have a Gulf Beach outpost, which is a quaint little shack right on the beach. Goodies bills themselves as “Gourmet Fast Food.”

We recently stopped in at the Gulf Beach location to try the Goodies Connecticut lobster roll. What struck me right away was that the menu was very abbreviated when compared to their other location. While the Cherry Street location’s menu is almost epic in its offerings, this little shack has just the basics — which I suppose should be expected given the small size of the location. Nonetheless, there is plenty of seating — both at the picnic tables and built in seating area and on the surrounding beach. And frankly, the joy of eating beach-side totally makes up for the limited menu choices.

The kids and I ordered fried clams, a hot dog, cheesy fries and a hot lobster roll. But who am I kidding? This is all about the Connecticut lobster roll.

Goodies’ Connecticut lobster roll is served the traditional way: very buttery and piled on a toasted hot dog bun. What I loved about this lobster roll was the little lemon wedge that came with it — that sprinkle of lemon juice goes a long way in elevating this simple hot lobster roll. Be sure to use it.

That said, this isn’t the best Connecticut lobster roll I’ve had. The lobster is fine, but it lacks that just plucked from the shell flavor. Also, it’s not exactly filled to overflowing in the roll. It’s a good lobster roll — but not knock-your-socks-off-great.

The Fixin’s

The Connecticut lobster roll at Goodies at Gulf Beach comes with just a lobster roll for $10.29. At the Cherry Street location, you have a choice of just the lobster roll for the same price or the hot lobster roll platter for $13.29, which comes with French fries and coleslaw as well.

The Verdict on this Connecticut Lobster Roll

Is this the best Connecticut lobster roll? No. But it’s good, and will definitely satisfy the craving. Also, for about $10, it’s one of the more economical choices for Connecticut lobster rolls. Plus, the location is awesome. If you are in the area, it’s worth a try.
