With just a few ingredients, Spicy Rosemary Mixed Nuts can become a holiday party favorite. This recipe was created for my client, Planters, but all opinions are my own.
A few weeks ago, I received my first holiday party invitation. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that the invite made me totally giddy with excitement. There’s something about celebrations that make December even more special. I love the holiday season — and also love creating delicious foods that everyone looks forward to digging into.
My mind has been totally on entertaining lately. Now that Thanksgiving is over, I’m thinking about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We’ll be celebrating with my parents, but I often do much of the cooking. So I am dreaming up easy, delicious ways to add to the fun. And more specifically, I’ve been thinking on those little bites foods that are perfect for piling onto appetizer plates. When I was a kid, that meant the so-called relish tray, piled high with olives and sweet gherkins. And sometimes it would mean nuts too — mixed nuts, to be precise. I can remember digging through the bowl during holiday celebrations when no one was looking, searching for my favorite varieties. The nuts were always such a treat.

See, mixed nuts? They are good. Filled with an unique combination of good fats, dietary fiber, and vitamins and minerals, they aren’t just tasty — they are nutritionally good too. But want to make those nuts even better? Roast them a bit with delicious seasonings. That takes from from mmm to wow — in just minutes. In fact, these babies could be called downright elegant.
Making these is as simple as can be: Mixed nuts are tossed with oil and seasonings and then roasted to perfection. Served warm from the oven or cooled, these are a great way to make the nut bowl a star of the appetizer table.
When serving, try piling these into a candy dish or a footed dish with a small spoon. For a more casual presentation, serving these with little treat cups to spoon them into is a great idea too.
This recipe is made with Planters Mixed Nuts, which are the nuts I grew up on. I remember buying Planters peanuts with my grandmother for snacking, and being the one of pop open the canister of mixed nuts for holidays. So I was super excited to work with the brand on this fun post about entertaining with nuts.
What’s your favorite nut variety?
- 2 cups Planters Mixed Nuts
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp ancho chile powder
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
- salt and pepper, to taste
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- In a medium mixing bowl, toss together the nuts, oil, chile powder, rosemary, salt and pepper. Spread on a nonstick baking sheet.
- Roast the nuts for 8-10 minutes, shaking once or twice, until lightly browned. Let cool slightly before transferring to a serving dish.
