Costello’s Clam Shack in Noank is an open-air eatery overlooking the picturesque harbor where New England classics are dished up daily during the tourist season. With two floors of seating and a wide variety of choices on the menu from basic burgers to fried clams, this clam shack is a fun stop on a summer day where you can enjoy good food overlooking the water.
Nearby Mystic, I headed to Costello’s to try their famed hot lobster roll. So, was this the best lobster roll in Connecticut?
The hot lobster roll at Costello’s isn’t your typical Connecticut lobster roll. Costello’s has crafted a towering sandwich served on a toasted hamburger bun (that’s right: no hot dog buns here!). The lobster is plentiful and piled so high it’s more than a mouthful. (Hint: push down the sandwich a little and the lobster will shift in a more mouth-friendly shape.)
What’s great about this lobster roll is that the lobster tastes as sweet and fresh as it would if you’d cracked it out of the shell yourself. The incredibly buttery bun is a good compliment, though it’s decidedly not waist-friendly (though is any Connecticut lobster roll waist friendly?).
The lobster roll at Costello’s comes with coleslaw, a pickle and a bag of chips. Cost: $15.95
The Verdict on this Connecticut Lobster Roll
I really loved this lobster roll since it had so many big chunks of warm lobster and was so buttery. The fact that it’s a little different makes it special too. It’s definitely worth a try if you are in the area.
